Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - triumph 20 value, over 45 years old?

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site so appoligies if i have put this in the wrong place. My Mother has a bike in her shed that she bought second hand 40 years ago. it still works besides the flat tyres. It says Triumph 20 on it. i am interested in selling it if it is worth something. i will try and figure out how to put pictures up but anyone got a rough estimate? or where could i go to get it valued?

What kind of condition is it in? Where are you located?

Welcome to the site and I have the same questions gna did. If you do plan on selling it, having it in rideable condition always helps so try inflating the tires and see if they can hold air, if not I'd consider investing in some cheapo tubes and tires at the very least. Cheers

besides the surface rust and the old leather on the origional saddle it is pretty good. Everything is origional. I am in Dublin, Ireland. I was unable to find this bike anywhere online. Has anyone else herd of a triumph 20?

It sounds like a Raleigh Twenty (AKA Raleigh Shopper, Raleigh Folder, &c). Raleighs were sold under many different names, and the Twenty was no exception. I've heard of Phillips, BSA, and... oh, I forget the whole list now. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same bike badged as a Hercules, Rudge, Triumph, etc.

They are not rare, but they have a devoted following. If it's in nice condition you will have no trouble finding a buyer. In my area a well preserved one might sell for $200 or more; one in rough condition might still bring half that.

Here (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/raleigh-twenty.html)'s a web page about them. But if you google "raleigh twenty" and look at photos, you'll know pretty much instantly whether that's what you have.

In my area, I have yet to see anyone ask more than $100 for one on Craigslist.

Raleigh owned Triumph, and used the mark for variants of their bikes. That said, I've never seen a Triumph 20, but I would like one.

Sheldon Brown (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/raleigh-twenty.html) liked 20s, and they do have a following. I've seen a couple come up for sale on craigslist.com, and in both cases, the seller was bombarded with offers, so they changed their listing to a best offer. I have no idea what the market is like in Dublin, so I'm afraid I'm no help to you, but I'd clean it up, put air in the tires, and see if you can get $75-100 for it (55 to 75 Euros). Perhaps it's worth more; perhaps less.
