Local guy has a decent 71 I believe that I passed on. Its in great shape but I have never seen one in my short time messing with these things.

Any idea on value?

Hi that_guy_zack -
Did you actually see the bike? - Are you sure he did not miscommunicate ? Raleigh made 24" FRAMES for Records, but I have never seen a Record with 24" WHEELS.

Regarding value, I would say that rarity does not assure a high price. A Record with normal 27" wheels in really good shape might command $150 around here (even hi-ten Raleighs sell especially well here) and I cannot imagine such a small one going for any more. - And at that, it would have to find the right buyer - either someone completing a collection, or a very small rider.

Maybe a Raleigh Colt, which had 24" wheels ????

Nope, Raleigh Record with 24" wheels. Spotted in the flesh.

As we all know, a Raleigh Record is the bottom of the line Raleigh ten speed, all steel, rather stylish in a superficial kind of way, but very heavy... I bought my first one used for a hundred bucks in 1978, sold it for a hundred bucks a year or two later... and wouldn't pay that much for one now, since I don't need one.

One with 24" wheels would be worth more only if someone needed such a small one. They are pretty rare in that size, but still... it's a Record.

Actually, I'd love to find one; it's exactly what I need for my daughter, who is a strong cyclist for her size but much too small to ride a bike with bigger wheels than that. So I probably would be willing to pay... oh, I dunno, fifty or seventy bucks for a nice one.

Yup Raleigh made the Record with 24" wheels. The wheels are chrome and yes they are heavy bikes. There was a thread not long ago from someone who found a Univega with 24" wheels that had alloy, Araya rims. Those rims must be rare because most of these short bikes (that I've seen) had chrome rims like the Raleigh. I believe Rampar also made a 24" version, but I could be wrong.

Hey, check out this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Peugeot-10-Speed-Bike-24-Wheels-Early-1970s_W0QQitemZ290416160651QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439e26ef8b) auction. It'll give you a pretty good idea what people are willing to pay! I'm almost tempted, since the bike looks so much like my PX-10...

Bottom end bike with 24 inch wheels = juvenile/kids sized. Little/no value around here for anything with 24 inch wheelset. I wouldn't touch it unless you happen to need a bike that size for personal use.

Oh, I wouldn't be using it, that's for sure; thang is, I have a daughter who's 11. Last Wednesday we did a 45 mile ride together, on our three speeds; I would have preferred to take the PX10, but that would have looked all wrong. Style is everything, you know! If she had a mini-Peugeot, now, that would be perfect.

Okay, that ebay mini-Peugeot sold for $85. It had a leather saddle; cottered crank; Simplex derailleurs; steel rims on nutted Normandy hubs; Mafac Racer brakes. So to figure the value of the Raleigh, I'd compare the components and make a wild guess.

Well sheeyut, Kurt, I could have made that very easy for you.

The fellow who I gave it to might want to arrange just that. PM if interested.

There's someone in Astoria/LIC selling a Raleigh Record 24 (http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/bik/2372808951.html)".
