Texas - Coming to Austin to film some epic rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We are producers of epicRIDES virtual bike rides for use in indoor training. Info and previews at: http://www.epicplanet.tv/

We are coming to Austin in late April to film a couple of rides and are looking for contacts in the city (bike shops, cycling friendly businesses, etc.) and suggestions as to the best ride routes.

Thanks for any help!

You might want to try this in the Road forum, a lot of ATX riders in there.

You should film the Tour Das Hugel route. Hills, Hills, and more Hills.

Start Location: Stratford Dr, in the parking lot beneath the Mopac Bridge
Distance: ~108 miles
Total elevation gain: 14,812 feet (estimate from topo software)
Total climbing (greater than 10% grade): ummm... it's a lot

routes are in the files section.

Check out the Tour das Hugel (http://www.tourdashugel.com/) route and use the contact button to reach the organizer. The route takes in the most heinous climbs in Austin and includes a lot of epic 20%+ climbs around Austin. Beauford Rd, Jester, Smokey Valley and Big View stand out particularly painful in my mind. Bullick Hollow is another brute... shoot, just record the whole route.

You should also check out the Fredericksburg area (1.5 hours west) for another series of impossibly beautiful and epic roads. Freedom Hill, Skyline and McCullough stand out in my head because of their propensity to make me black out while riding... Bear Creek is a blast if you are hitting it hard. Check out the Texas Hell Week website for contact info for the organizers and route planners.

I'm sure you can find something there.

Or, one of biggest epics in TX is the HHH100 route, not because it's rough but because it is the last weekend in August, in Texas, in the Red River valley.
