Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Jeans issue... waist and legs are not co-operating

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hi

I'm wondering if anyone else here who has lost some weight has had a similar issue ? and how did they fix it ?

I've gone for 215 to 201.... I was at a 38 inch waist for jeans and now I fit into a 32 with some room to spare

the issue is that my legs are rather large and a 32 inch waist jean even in relaxed fit is ski tight on my quads

I'm hoping to get down to about 195 but my legs are pretty lean as it is so I doubt they will get smaller if anything I might add more mass to them

so has anyone been able to find a happy medium ?

I think Levis come in a 'loose' option which is even larger than the relaxed fit. If that doesn't work for you then big&tall shops will have stuff that caters to football player body types (big legs, wide shoulders, narrow waist, etc.).

Levis has a number of different fits that vary from ultra-skinny to super-baggy. You might try their 559 (Relaxed Straight) or 569 (Loose Straight) jeans. If you have massive quads and a skinny waist, finding the right fit can be tough unfortunately...

I have a similar issue. Gap thinks I have a size 2 waist and size 4 thighs. My solution? Buy the larger size and, in the immortal words of the Gap Girls, "Just cinch it!"

We should all have such problems. :-(

37" waist, 27.5" quad, 17.5" calf.
I manage to fit (just barely) into Levi's 505 regular fit jeans if I buy them 1" larger (38") at the waist. Not much extra room in the thighs; I can carry my wallet and my car keys in the pockets, but I'm not wedging my cell phone in there, too.
Kohl's carries a brand called Urban Pipeline which has a much looser fit, and I can buy a spot-on waist size and not have any binding issues with the rest of the cut. I'm pretty sure they're skater-kid jeans, so they're wide all the way through the leg, as opposed to many jeans which taper toward the ankle and just end up looking like denim Hammer Pants.

you can have anything tailored, even jeans.

I chose to use suspenders.

fwy: recently got these pants and love them! I'm a 38 and had to get their XL. the top is one big elastic band!

Not to turn this into a one-up fest, but my quads are making even carpenter style jeans uncomfortably tight.

I've been trying out Diamond Gusset jeans. The nice part is that they come in finer increments and are a little more cycle-commutable than regular jeans on account of a space-age foofy crotch.

Am toying with taking the jeans into an alterations shop to get them cinched in at the waist and maybe even pulled in around the legs so there's less stuff to jam into the legbands.

I only wear jeans/pants when working, and the rest of the time I'm in a pair of shorts. :D

Even though I live in Southern California, I'd probably wear shorts in the winter in some winter climates....

I live in the DC area and I wear shorts A LOT in the winter time. Shorts are infinitely superior in terms of comfort IMHO, and my legs rearely get cold. Then again, lots of people think I'm a little :twitchy: for doing so...

I've always had this problem. I almost always have to get pants 1-2 sizes bigger in the waist to fit my mid-thigh through buttocks region. It is more pronounced when I'm in good shape.

In my younger years, when I used to lift more weights, I used to have to get my "decent" trousers tailored (extra $10-$30, depending on the cut of the pants). I did not bother when it came to jeans. I just got used to the fact that I could not tuck in my shirt when wearing things like jeans, or people would see my underwear where the waist-band looped down below my belt.

These days, it takes me longer than most people, but I can usually find a cut of pants that will do the job and not look silly. I don't lift weights like I used to, and my middle is naturally thicker than it used to be (age).

My experience is, that you can either learn to live with it, or you can do something about it. A decent seamstress or tailor can fix you right up, and not for a lot of money. I used to get a lot of my pants for $5-$10 from the thrift store, and take those to the seamstress. The pants lasted longer when they fit correctly as well.

I grew up in Harford County and made trips to New Jersey to see family, I was the :twitchy: but was always comfortable.

And for the OP, when I do wear jeans, I wear Wranglers, since I am wearing them I can tell you they are quite comfy.

"Pants on the ground, Pant's on the ground, lookin like a fool wit ya pants on the ground"

Buy pants in a larger size and wear a belt. I've been 260lbs at my heaviest and worn 38/40 inch waist pants. I've been as light as 190lbs (I'm 6'3") and still wear 38" pants partly because of the leg issue and partly because when I weighed 190 it was 1996 and I was a hip hop DJ lol

I used to wear long johns on under my shorts. That way i got the benefits of staying warm along with the flexibility of shorts. Of course I did get some strange looks.

My winter commuting garb was a pair of cargo shorts over black underlayer tights. Same concept, I guess, though I wasn't the only one in that get-up. Not around here anyway.

+1 to canopus on the cargo pants. If I have to wear pants outside of work, I almost always grab the cargo pants. Roomy, comfy, and I like all the pockets!!! :)

Wrangler Carpenter pants have lots of room in legs and butt... My favorite jeans :) Or cargo pants, but too many pockets on a lot of them. Most these days look like tactical pants!

There are many different cuts of jeans. Go to Saks or Needles Markup and see if you can find a pair the fits. then you can look for them on sale via the internet.

Anything that fits my waist has a crotch that is uncomfortably close to my knees.

Gap Loose fit starts out tight, but eventually they wear in very well. It won't be loose in the thigh (if youre sized like me) but will eventually fit very well. My two cents.

i have the same problem.. Old navy, has a nice selection of jeans, that are quality, and for a good price, I get the relaxed boot cut jeans and they have enough room for my legs and calf's.

I stopped wearing jeans mostly because the legs are too small and the waist is too big. Even with a belt, it looks like I just stole them from about 10 clowns.

But also jeans are heavy cotton, so they're awful in less than perfect outdoor weather. Bad for kayaking, for cycling when there might be rain, for hiking when there could be water in the air or on the trail, etc. I switched to cargo pants and trousers, the former being mostly quick dry fabrics. And when cycling, I can almost always fit my stuff in the plethora of pockets, and leave the backpack behind.
