Hi All,
For various reasons (mostly lousy knees) I've lost the ability to ride a bike. However, I do want to ride a recumbent trike.
I bought the Atomic Zombie plans for the Delta Runner ( which seems to be my 65 year old speed), but found out that there would be lots more welding than I could reasonably get done. (I thought that I could get the frame welded, and assemble the rest on my own. Wrong. :notamused: ) Wonderful plans, though. (I have NO connection, except as a customer with AZ.)
I researched wood bikes on the internet, and have decided to build a trike from wood. My plan, the way I like to work, is to use things as completely as they are, not tear down to basic parts.
I look at the rear triangles of a bike, and see ready-made back end with all the drive stuff there. I would only drive one side for my Delta Recumbent. I've figured out how I want to mount the two rear triangles, just working on the driving mechanism.
So the problem I have to solve is that I have an entire triangle in the rear, right side of the trike (one on the left, too, but it's not to be driven), and my real pedals are several feet forward of the (existing bottom bracket), and worst, about one foot to the left.
My ideal situation would be to remove the left crank from the bottom bracket and attach a shaft. This shaft would go out to the left to the centerline of the bike (in a bearing/pillowblock) with a sprocket on it.
Anyhow, that's where I am and I'll head into the forums to see what I can learn, and if this works, what I can contribute.
