My guess is early 80's, Nice Champion tubeset. I'd guess it would sell for somewhere around $100 to $150 tops. Looks to be in good shape with new tires.

Thanks Roccobike. I cleaned it up a bit an installed new tires, otherwise it's as found.

Stem shifters, turkey levers, rusty pedals, chipped paint, and claw derailleur hanger are all negatives. Champion 5 cromoly frame, split top rail, alloy crankset, alloy rims, and mixte style are all pluses.

I would do some really minor touchup, change out the pedals, ditch the crankset chain guard, and it would go for $175.

It looks like there is a model # below the 'Cr-Mo' decal on the split top tube. And as it's rounded on the top it is either 300 or 200. We have a 1983 Model 400 mixte with the same color, pinstriping and 'Cr-Mo' decals, and I'd bet that yours is the same date give or take a year.

You're right, it's a 300. I didn't even see that. Does that affect value?

Value? Evidently not if you are getting $150 for it!

I don't know of a Shogun catalog available online, but there have been lots of Shogun questions on this forum, so a search (go by 'thread title' under advanced search) will turn up some helpful info. You can tell the date of your bike more exactly by the serial #. T-Mar, BF's expert on Japanese bikes, has deduced the code, which IIRC for Shogun is: initial letter indicates the actual manufacturer of the frame, then a single digit which is the final digit of the year (in the 80s). I dunno about Tange being the actual manufacturer, as T-Mar has stated that there were different manufacturers at different times. (Possibly for different models too? Pure speculative question on my part.)

If T-Mar turns up in this thread he can tell you more, but generally: at least in the early to mid 80s, Shogun's models were identified by numbers, in the hundreds, with lower numbers being lower models. So a 200 or 300 is entry level. But in the mid 80s that would still mean a cr-mo frame (in fact Shoguns trumpeted that fact with kind of ugly decals) so a considerably lighter bike than the same model would have been a few years prior. I would not be surprised if your 300 and our 400 had the same frame but different components. Actually we have '83 and '85 400 mixtes (what are the chances), and the latter is slightly 'better' ie it has a 'tangaloy' fork while the '83's is probably hi-ten, components on both are basic Shimano.

Anyway, it's only a few complete nerds who know or care anything about this (welcome to the club!) level of detail so obviously not real important to value.

I am going to guess just on the graphics that yours is just a little earlier than our '83.

Here are our two, pics taken right after I picked them up. The '83 is the blue one, a larger frame than usual for a mixte, and the tan '85 had been 'comfort-ized' which is okay as it's going to my MIL.
