Hello. I have just got hold of a "British Eagle" hybrid bike and it's in perfect working condition, with barely a scratch on the paint. However, I need it to be a particular colour and so I am going to paint it. I have been advised that simply sanding the current paint back a bit will provide a decent base layer upon which to paint, and that I could do so with liquid paint and a brush.

Has anyone ever done this? I will be painting it deep green, and the original paint is a light grey colour.

Anything you can tell me about this plan would be appreciated.

Painting with a brush isn't most folks first choice for painting a bike frame. I haven't done it since I was about 14.
As long as you're cool with the brush stokes what the hell!. Based on my experience with my pet tractors I like Valspar construction and implement paint, It is a brushable/sprayable oil based paint when combined with a separately available hardener gives a nice durable finish. They have two colors of green, John Deere Green and the darker Oliver green. Central Tractor/ Farm and Family stores are the best places to find this paint

Thanks for the reply. I think what I might do is get some paint and try it out on part of a junk frame, say. Then if it looks alright I'll put it on the other bike.
