Yes,it's that time again. The little cookie monsters are out roaming the streets of your neighbourhood. There was one at my door tonight and who amongst us can resist that elfin smile and sweet little question"Would you like to buy some girl guide cookies?" Be warned, now if I can just find a formula to tell me how many kilometers I have to ride to the cookie, I'll do okay.:D

Do you know what the little temptresses do around here? Stand at the doorway of the supermarket, that's what. All charming and cute with their gap toothed smiles and seductive ways. It used to be, they came to your house, you placed your order, a little while later the cookies showed up, you ate like a starving piggy for a few days and it was over for another year But now...every sodding time I buy groceries, I have to run this gauntlet.

In days of old, sirens used to lure sailors on to the rocks with their alluring songs. Their modern day equivalents lure me onto the bathroom scales with their chocolate covered thin mints.

Damn them all!

Thankfully those little cookie monsters only left two boxes at my house:eek: It takes me about one hour to work off four of the delicious mint ones.......

FYI - putting the mint cookies in the freezer doesn't delay the eating of them....they taste just as good when they're frozen:o

Nah,nanaimo bars are good places to stay out of what with all that good canadian beer to quaff,it causes you to have extra pit stops when you ride so they can make sure the guys to the south have enough beer to drink if you get my drift. :D

Thankfully they are selling the chocolate vanilla combo pack here these days not the chocolate mint ones which are lucky to make it home without being devoured. The chocolate mint ones show up in the fall to help you put on the hibernation layer in order for you to get through the rigorous Canadian winters

Finished off the last of our chocolate mint cookies last night (they are awesome fresh out of the freezer). Being married to a former Girl Scout, I am required to purchase at least one box whenever I am asked.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I also hate to see an otherwise reputable organization pushing poison on the American public.

Healthful or at least semi-healthful processed snack foods do exist, and GSA should at least include some in the menu of choices. (During the sugar and flour shortage of WWII, they reportedly sold calendars instead of cookies.)

The continuing debate over health care in America completely misses the elephant (literally) in the room -- Americans are underexercised and overfed with chemically addictive foods.

I have one of the evil temptresses at home - we end up with about a dozen boxes, they don't last long.

I done pretty good. I bought three boxes and had two of them shipped to our troops. So I ate one box, down from my usual quota. I'm not going to say what my usual quota is. Too embarrassing.

Supermarkets are private property, you don't like people begging at the door, either ignore them, or complain to the store manager. Store managers have the right to grant or deny permission for that kind of activity. I just say, "no thanks" and move on, the GS cookies aren't that good anyway.....

They routinely setup shop outside of the neighborhood grocery stores around here to taunt me with their Thin Minty goodness. I almost always end up buying at least one box a trip - good for me and good for them is how I explain away my guilts.

On a side note - it's apparently very bad form for separate Girl Scout troops to setup shop at different entrances of the same store - that almost came to blows in the parking lot a week ago.

There is this thing called moderation. I buy those cookies every year from the child of a nurse I work with. My wife and I buy the ones we like (we have to buy at least 5 boxes) and they last all year. And you know what? I drink beer too! And wine!

They always hit up the firehouse...and make a killing......

The supermarket overexposure has really sharpened my ability to just say no.

Of course the supermarket is the only place I ever see an actual girl scout, for at least 10 years it's just been their parents at work circulating sign-up sheets (that I also find it pretty easy to pass on).

I always tell the parents that I will buy, but only from the kid. And then I buy well. One boy scout in my area told his dad on the first day of their popcorn campaign this year "Hey, we need to go to "RUOkie"'s office first! Now that's good learning. :D
