Most of those bikes look totally jackass: Super long brake cable, drop bars are angled way too far forwards, and Brooks saddles look ridiculous when set that high...

Cool frames, though.

as for the cruiser bars on the chrome bike, i love that whole bike.

overall: sick frames, sweet components, sometimes questionable builds, and lower those saddles!

I don't quite understand the bend in the seat tube on this frame.
so the BB is pushed forward while keeping the seat tube angle to something reasonable... or something.
then why not bend it at a slightly higher point so the wheel can be tucked in closer for a shorter wheelbase?

Edit: I thought frame mounted shifters were uncool, check the yellow bike.

Trade shows are great because you see lots of great product... that's still in Beta. Frames that aren't quite perfect, seat tube bends in the wrong places, brakes that don't line up with the rims no matter where you put the pads, bikes that are just plain old built up poorly (seatposts..). The thing is, these are all just supposed to be pretty looking things that give prospective buyers an image of what the company is capable of and what they are going to be selling this season. We're used to these minor flaws and we trust they'll be fixed when the tooling is finished and production is finalized!

my guess its both of these may have some truth to it.

all of these bikes command attention due to their colors and crazy builds, but then when you really look at each individual component you see that most of their products are actually really nice.

if these bikes were built in a more traditional manner their individual parts would blend in and/or their display would be mixed into the sea of other brands.

the only thing that doesnt make sense is the frame with the little rear wheel, but like jollysnowman said, this could just be mocking the 700/650c bar spin crowd...

I can only hope that certain elements are intended to mock, because there's no real excuse for two feet of seatpost, a single road lever with way too much cable, and poorly wrapped track drops mounted at some wonky angle.

I think you are taking all of this too literally. Have you ever been to a car show or motorcycle show and seen all the totally non-functional and crazy displays? Those displays were just put together to be photographed and get people all lathered up. I mean, that brake cable isn't connected, it's an aero lever, and the cable should emerge from the bottom on the hood and be routed under the bar tape. So, they are hurrying up to set up the display and say WTF, oh well, just stick the somewhere, anywhere, just make sure everything is really well polished and glittery. Personally, I'm old school so I love that black frame with the chromed lugs and fancy stem.

I used to be heavily immersed in the auto tuning scene. A good comparison to this show would be the Tokyo Auto Salon, where you see all sorts are automotive craziness. My problem is the fact that some of it looks either sloppy or just plain wrong. You see some ugly stuff at TAS, but it's mostly a matter of opinion.

I understand if they put it together in a hurry, but why put a brake on at all in that case? Why not angle the bars correctly, which would have taken no more time? The Japanese are known for their very polished displays, and this one just isn't.

MANY of the individual components and frames and stuff are awesome, but it totally looks like most of these bikes were made at the last minute from dudes grabbing random but awesome parts from boxes that got shipped in late or something lol

I think you missed the point...

Of course they shifters are mounted on the frame, it's that they are called downtube shifters.

And they are still popular on classic style frames, and you can easily change them to Brifters as you remove the shifter and add these cable stops in their place.
