I just wanted to commemorate this day. A day I didn't think would have been possible just one year ago. This date last year I had 500 miles logged. My goal for 2004 is 2000 miles. Looks like that figure is well within reach. Actually, I'll crash through that number long before December 31st. (God willing and the creek don't rise.)

Anyway, today is a special day for me. A day that I'll celebrate. A milestone day in my quest for the goal.

Today is a good day.

Congrats.
I don't think I could count my miles. I've not been keeping track. 1700 sounds like a good amount, though.

Have yerself a tall frosty one (of whatever you want). Cheers!

Great job.

I bought my bike in March and I'm just at 900 miles right now.

I know the feeling. I installed my bike computer on May 5th, and it's currently at 1155 miles. I really felt a sense of accomplishment the day it hit 1000 miles. At this rate I should have no problem getting to 2000 by the end of the year...

Congrats Bob!!!! You and I have been neck and neck on bikejournal.com most of the year, but I snuck ahead of you on the weekend with a 150 km MS biketour. Me being Canajun and all, I plan on celebrating when I get to 3000 km for this year in the next week or so. (I did some practice celebrating on Saturday night at the MS tour!)
I thought it would be difficult to get to this kind of mileage, but it has been nothing but fun!!!
Winter commuting sure helps to get an early start to on the mileage totals.

Thanks guys. It really does feel good. Like pinerider said, "I thought it would be difficult to get to this kind of mileage, but it has been nothing but fun!!!" I couldn't have said it better.

Pinerider, I guess I'll have to see about catching up with you!

I also turned 38 today. A co-worker asked how old I was, when I told her, she said I didn't look 38. :D That made me feel good.

Congradulations and happy birthday. It's good that you set the goal of 2000 miles in the begining of the year... setting a goal is a big part of achievment... how do you expect to get there if you don't know where you are going!? 2000 miles will be easy cruzing for you now!

not bad but this fat fellow 235 and going down gets about 4800 a year. commuting really adds on the miles. so you better get working (G)

Congrats - I'll be breaking the same mark with a metric century this weekend. I broke last year's total (1651) yesterday.

Congrats, Bob!

Congrats to all that are getting out and setting new goals, breaking new distance marks!!

I too have been happy with 2004 results. Goal at beginning was 5,500. Based upon current trend, it will be closer to 5,000. Of course all of that depends on the early winter weather in the Midwest.

Congrat's. It is a great feeling.

I'm pushing for 3000K this year. I'll probably make it sometime around November if the snow does not come too early. :)

Perhaps she meant you really looked 55? :roflmao:

Congrats. Those mileage markers always make me feel good. Keep it up!

Thanks everyone.

Denver, you may be right. She is a very cute twenty something distance runner. I'm sure I look like a "more experienced" age to her.

steveknight - I'll work on it! My goal for next year will be double my final milage for this year.

Bob,

Congrats.. I'm watching you over at bikejournal.com.. you and I keep leapfrogging each other in the standings.. I'm at 1724 I think so far... I was hoping for 3000, but 2500 seems much more feasible now!!

good going !

Hi Jeff! I have also noticed that you and I have been neck-n-neck. Another BF regular, pinerider, has been right in the mix with use as well on BJ. I'm not sure where my mileage will end up. Of course, its the journey not the destination that keeps me going.

i am trying not to be a milage junkie, but one can't help it. 850 miles in july was my high water mark for a monthly milage goal.
my goals are going for over 250 rides this calander year (remember, upper midwest factor)
another goal? 35,000 for the decade. am closing in and right on schedule.

Congrats, seems like you and I are on the same pace for the year. I have 1,718 commute miles for the year. I have a goal set for 2,500 commute miles.

Keep up the good work!

Does everyone else have definte numbers for goals?? Mine is just to ride as much as I can, whether it's roading, mtbing or commuting. I'm skipping a mtb ride tonight due to fatigue, it's tough catching up with and getting ahead of Jeff and Bob!!! I did a 160km charity ride Saturday and Sunday, 23 km commuting Monday and Tuesday and a 11.5 km commute and 50 km road ride last night. Last night's ride was tough, I was dragging my arse the whole time and not really enjoying it. I should have taken a day off somewhere, but I was feeling pretty good until last night's ride.
Do you think having definite goal numbers may tend to lead you to ride when maybe you should be taking a day off???

Hey Greg! The number for me is a simple motivating factor. Helps me to keep on track. I started riding for weight loss. Still do to some extent. More so for the joy of it now.

I don't ride when I don't feel up to it.

Oh, wait. I am a year-round commuter in Montana. Of course I ride when I should really be taking a day off of the bike! However, the goal has nothing to do with that.

I am quite goal centric. :D

Greg

No. But I do like to keep track, and to see if I can increase each year - or at least keep even. The only way I know this is by keeping trackof miles.

However, I never ride when I shouldn't for that purpose.

Nice work!

Ironically, I just logged my last ride and I am at 1699.8. Seems like we should be seeig eachother everywhere...

Good luck with 2000. My goal was 1000 befour our first child was born in July. Now I'm not sure what to aim for.

I find that if I set a goal at the beginning of the year it really helps me stay on track.. I've started looking at the rest of the year and figuring out if I have enough time left to 1300 miles... I'm really leaning against it... but ya never know... I should be close to 1800 by next wednesday.. then a week of in New Orleans, then a Century ride 4 days after I get back...

like I said before.. original goal was 3000.... but I think 2500 is more realistic. Last year I was on pace to hit 2000 before my bike snapped on me, and left me without it for nearly 3 months.
