Never make your first ride of the season a 10km time trial (last time I rode was early October, did zero spinning this winter).

if your legs are still hurting from yesterday's ride, take it easy on today's ride.

yes, the ol' recovery spin. not much else feels nicer than a laid back pace after a hard ride.

i could add that another thing i learned the hard way (and others should learn from me) is to not attempt a century with a hangover. at km 60 i bonked in a headwind and the last 40 home felt horrible.

do not avoid a difficult route by taking an unknown route. i tried to avoid a climb and found a route that had several climbs each one very steep but shorter. it was a much harder ride than if i had just taken the easier climb.
This coupled with my first mistake meant i could not turn the pedals on a couple of occasions and had to stop. humiliating.
