Bicycle Mechanics - How to get a removable chain link?

Since it seems these days my drivetrain needs a new lube after each and every ride, I would like to get a chain with a removable link (Powerlink?).

I know SRAM makes a chain with a removable link...what are my options for a Shimano chain? Is there an aftermarket product for adding this feature, or do I need a whole new chain?

Will a SRAM PC-xx chain work with Shimano cluster/der/rings?

SRAM is completely Shi*No compatible. You can use a SRAM Powerlink with a Shi*No chain

TIASram chains work on shimao drivetrains, and sram 9 links work on shimano 9 chains.

Performace.com a(nd I would guess most other Cat. sites) has them. I paid about $4-5 they come in all sizes for the diff. speed cassettes.

After Googling around a bit, several sites (including SRAM's) say that the Power Link is only compatible with SRAM chains, and not with Shimano, Sachs, etc.

Has anyone *actually* put a Power Link on a Shimano chain?

Or is this just product-placement and liability BS?

I'm using the ConneX link 9 speed 6.5mm with a Shimano Durra Ace. That is what the other wreches are using. No problem Also the way to go if your on a group ride Week or longer. keep the extra links from you last chain reaplacement and You can patch a chain with these things. But the ease of keeping your daily rider clean is the best thing.

Some of us feel you got it right the first time.

SRAM is completely Shi*No compatible. You can use a SRAM Powerlink with a Shi*No chainA sram 8 link is too narrow for a shimano 8 chain tho.

That is just sram speak and CYA. Pepole have been doing it for years. Me too. No issues.

Yes, I'm looking for 9-speed, I guess I can spend the $4 and see for myself.

I have had a SRAM 9 speed powerlink on a Shimano chain for thousands of miles and, despite what SRAM says, it has worked flawlessly.

we have done it twenty or thirty times with no complaints from the recipients.

[/url]Just to even things out,the super link is the worst I ever used. Went TU in 500 miles on a campy 10 chain. No issues with a connex on the same chain,and it cost less..Srams last the life of the chain.

I was never really all that happy with Shimano chains in general so I generally switched the whole chain over to SRAM. I have since converted to using Wipperman ConneX chains. However, I have many friends who use the SRAM PowerLinks on Shimano chains without problems. I am a little confused on the ConneX-Link compatibilities though. Is the one that ships with their chain the same as the aftermarket ones or does Wipperman produce a seperate series of ConneX-Links just for Shimano chains? I know the PowerLinks that ship with the SRAM chains are the same ones that will work with Shimano chains.

I have never purchased a Wipperman chain. I’m told the ConneX link is the same as on what the put on the chain. That is how the shop first got them. tried the chain with link but thought Dura-Ace was quieter and they moved the link to the Dura-Ace. Now we just buy the link. Seems the same.
