Touring - Pictures from my tour in January, from San Francisco to Santa Maria, CA.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

there.

I'm feeling altogether too lazy to post the pictures here directly.

Either way, I had a very nice adventure, met some awesome people, and... Well, that's it!

Who were the "bike tourists" from Ohio? Do you know more about their group?

Wasn't it a great trip? :) You stopped at just the right place. If I were to do this again, I would probably stop in Santa Maria too. There is not much need to go any further.

There is that run down into Santa Barbara. My computer said 62 MPH max. I am glad I did not see that on the descent. :)

Thanks all! I've not yet ridden to SB, but it's supposed to be nice.

I met some cool people- The Ohio kids were a group of Nazarenes going on tour with a class of theirs over the break, led by Dr. Kronk, I believe his name was.

Not really. It is all freeway from just outside Lompoc. Noisy and dirty. Not a lot of fun.

I live here in Santa Maria, and there are many ways to get to Santa Barbara. Ideally, lompoc would be avoided entirely. The 154 ("the pass") is very pretty- lots of climbing, you pass some lovely lakes and go through a national forest. It's actually a lot of fun.

The 101 is noisy and dirty. Not a lot of fun. But you go through Gaviota, and ride coast too. Also potentially... Ok...

I rode San Francisco to San Diego about a year and a half ago. I enjoyed all of it, even the freeway into SB. Maybe because all of it was new to me. One of the best things about bike touring for me is that the scenery is always changing (like in a car), but you also have the time/pace to savor the experience for what it is - whether it be freeways or forests.

Sounds like you had a good time! I'd love to check out those pictures, but where I am right now, Facebook is blocked. :notamused:
