Bicycle Mechanics - Installing Continental Sport 1000 help

First time putting on new tires for me.
How would I know in what direction they need to be put on.
In the picture below you can see the treads that make a V shape on either side of the center strip of tread. Use that as a reference.

Should the slashes be look like \ / from the top while rolling or / \ .

If there aren't any markings to the contrary, I put them on so that, from the top, it looks like the "v" elements point toward the front. Frankly, I doubt that it matters much, but I think that it just looks better that way. I also make a point of lining up the colored label with the valve stem. The guy who installed the tire on your example didn't do that.

Thats what I was thinking too. The picture is from an online catalog so don't pay any attention to that.
Main reason I asked is because car tires and motorcycle tires have slashes in them that direct water away from it. Didn't know if that applied to bicycle tires also.

I always mount my tires with the labels at the valve stems and labels facing the drive side of the bike. On these Contis, when mounted in such manner, the bottom of the 'V' will come in contact with the road first. I use these tires on one of my bikes.

Thank you fixer. How have the tires held up for you? I mostly use my bike for commuting in the city and short 20mile rides after work every other day when I am not working.
