So, I haven't ridden a bike in about 15 years and am looking to get back in as a recreational biker. I have a bad back and have been looking at some comfort bikes. I have narrowed it down to eithr the Giant Cypress DX or the standard Giant Cypress. My question is would the extra $120 justify getting the DX?

My local bikeshop only had the DX in stock which I took for a test drive and really liked. Anyone know if I would really be able to tell the difference in how the standard cypress rides? I know the standard cypress has handlebar shifters which don't bother me, but I would like some help with how the other differences stack up.

Similar to you, I hadn't been riding in 15-20 years. I got a 2009 regular Cypress last summer and have been very happy with it. It looks like for 2010, if you buy the DX, you get 3 more speeds, the trigger shifters, a saddle upgrade and a different (better?) rear derailer. I guess it's your call as to whether or not that's worth the extra bucks to you.

The DX looks [ online ] to be a better bike, but either one is going to make you happy & be a good ride. I think that Giant bikes are a great bike for their price. If the extra $120 is not going to " hurt " your budget, I would get it.

The trigger shifter is nice, push it a bit and it downshifts one gear, push more and two, more and three. Makes it nice when coming to a stop, you can just push and downshift three gears all at once to be ready to go again.

Not sure what happened to all the other replies, but numerous replies from Scotty_Dog, jagonz456, and myself were recently deleted, based on their help I actually went out and purchased the standard Cypress and so far am very happy with it. I don't think I am currently an experienced enough rider to appreciate the differences. Hopefully in a year or two I'll get enough time on my bike that it warrants me making a much larger investment into this hobby.
