Training & Nutrition - Training for a Three Day 180 Mile Ride in June

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My daughter and I are doing the Trek Across Maine (a charity ride).
We have started some desultory training but as of April 1 we need to be training so that on June 19-21 we can do three 60 mile days. Not competition. Just training so the ride is not a sufferfest.
She is riding a Trek Alum hybrid and I am not sure which of my bikes I will be riding.

Can someone suggest a mileage by week training or show me a website?

We have about 10 weeks to get in shape.

Thanks,
Alan

What kind of time/distance are you both doing now? Weekly? Daily?

We are fanatical skiers and the ski season in the East is unfortunately coming to a close (quicker than I want).
My 16 year old daughter is probably putting in 20 miles a week (14 mph pace) and I am probably putting in the last 2 weeks 30 miles a week at the same pace.
I am hoping to do 15 mph pace for the three 60 mile days.

A rule of thumb is often to increase by 10-20% per week. That's usually pretty safe to avoid too much stress, fatigue, sickness, and burnout. IMO you will want to be close to or over 180 miles for you weekly distance before your trip. At 20% increase per week you are looking at about 11 weeks. That's just a rule of thumb though.
