Road Cycling - Sequoia max tire size...

Can someone help me out? My wife owns a Specialized Sequoia and we want to stuff some bigger tires on there (i believe the stock size is 700X26). Anyone know what the max size a Sequoia (2004, 54cm) will handle? Would love to be able to get 700X32s on there...

I have had 32's on mine, but I had to deflate the tire in order to remove the wheel.

From what Easttexan is saying you could put on a 32, but you don't need to
if what you're looking for is a smoother ride. I have tried a few large tires, and my favorite by far is the Rivendell. I have the Ruffy Tuffy, but if you don't have to have a kevlar belt; try the Roly Poly. Great tire.

Yes. That's a good way to go. I'm a big fan of the Rivendell stuff (I'm an Atlantis rider myself) and I just want to get the skinny tires off my wife's bike and put on something more realistic for her. We're planning a trip up to New Brunswick in a few weeks and we will be doing a lot of riding on all kinds of terrain.

I do lite touring, and run the Ruffy Tuffy. I practically salivate over the Roly Poly, but I want the extra rubber and belt because I hate flats.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just hate it when newbies don't search before they post. Since I'm new to this forum I figured I outa search first... But:

Tire sizing rating in recent years has become far more indicative of real life size, and I do want to install the widest tire I can in a sequoia elite. Does anybody have insights into what will fit? And perhaps some real life experience to report using same?

I've used 32's as well ... but it's about as big as you can go. A bit of a pain getting the wheel off when I need to clamp the bike in my truck bed rack.

Fair nuff. Do you happen to remember if it really measured 32mm?

I'm curious about this too. I'd like to put slightly bigger tires than stock on my wife's bike since she crashed and broke her arm a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure what the max size the frame can fit.

Depends first on the year. The new Sequoia is tight. I doubt you could get a 27c in there. I know a guy running a Panaracer Pasela 32c on his. Not sure what the limit is; maybe the LBS would know.
