144343 We all know how frustrating it is to want to take our bicycles to an event ...and then wonder if we'll be able to find a safe and legal place to secure them! :( But happily, the 3rd Annual L.A. Heritage Day, at the Heritage Square Museum on Sunday April 11th, 2010, will have six barricade racks (three at each entrance) especially for locking bikes up!:)
A picture of what the barricades-as-bike-racks looks like is attached -- I have never done a posting with a picture...and still couldn't figure out from the Bike Forum FAQ instructions how to put it where I wanted! So please forgive me!
The Museum features about 10 rescued historic LA buildings, and its address is 3800 Homer Street, Los Angeles, California, 90031-1530 (for those not riding the Metro, walking and/or arriving by bike, there is also free parking).
With a flyer available online here: http://www.heritagesquare.org/LAHD_2010_flyer.pdf
admission to Heritage Day and the museum grounds is FREE (otherwise, it's $5 to attend - so print out the flyer!). For the bike parking, we can thank local Los Angeles bicycle activist Stephen Box, who contacted the office of LA City Councilman Ed Reyes, on behalf of Heritage Square, about providing the bike parking, and his office made the arrangements. :thumb: Public transportation to the event is also being encouraged, and there is a Heritage Square stop on Metro's Gold Line.
If any of you are planning to attend -- bike or no bike -- please let me know :)
Also, for any fans of the legendary film comics LAUREL & HARDY -- the Heritage Square Museum has the circa 1887 Palms Depot -- the train station used in their 1929 comedy "Berth Marks" and also in some "Our Gang/Little Rascals" comedies. :D

L.A. Heritage Day: Sunday, April 11, 2010
LA Heritage Day is quickly approaching on Sunday, April 11, 2010. It will be held at Heritage Square Museum (3800 Homer Street, L.A. 90031), and admission is free if you download the flyer for free admission here: http://www.heritagesquare.org/LAHD_2010_flyer.pdf.
What more do you need to know?
There will be over 1000 attendees and 100 heritage organizations, historical societies, museums, and preservation groups present.
This year will also feature...
- a scavenger hunt for kids and "young at heart,"
- ongoing Heritage Showcase with a new "act" every 15 minutes throughout the day,
- Pink's Hot Dogs for sale on site,
- "open houses" of the historic homes at Heritage Square Museum,
- activities for kids,
- historic demonstrations,
- and much, much more!
How to get there:
You can drive and park, but you might have to walk a block or two. OR, this year, there are two options that are driving alternatives:
1. You can "Go Metro" and take Metro to the Heritage Square Gold Line Station and a free shuttle will take you to the entrance of the museum. OR...
2. You can ride your bike to Heritage Square Museum where special, secure bicycle parking has been arranged for the special event.
Don't miss the largest heritage event in LA County!
So that's it -- I'll be there at the Hollywood Heritage table...after I figure out which bike (or Kickbike!) to take on the Metro and lock up at one of those barricade/bike racks :)
