I'm staying out at Lake San Antonio for two days and their idea of a hilly ride is rather... interesting. I mapped out a nice hilly route to San Simeon but it's 50 miles one way which is a little longer than I wanted to go. Any suggestions?
I might be able to make a shorter route but I don't know what roads are ridable out there. What are the conditions of Burnett Creek Road? Cane I take that back to Lake San Antonio?
Ok, so the Wildflower triathlon route is a lot harder than it looks on paper. No super-long climbs, the biggest single climb took 10 minutes (they call it "Nasty Grade"), but a lot of rollers and wind. It was a good rolling course at 3600ft in 55 miles. Did it with one tri guy at about 21mph. We both pushed pretty hard and I was pretty spent when done.
Today I tried to ride out to San Simeon but apparently Chimney Rock Road doesn't go through as it appears on the map. I got 13 miles down the road and there was a gate and sign. I ended up just riding back to the lake and got 65 miles with 7,000 feet of climbing. It was crazy windy and raining at times and I only managed 16 mph...
