Foo - Why doesn't my laptop dvdrom recognized?

I disassembled my hp pavilion dv2000 laptop for a cleaning of the heatsink/fan, which pretty much required removal of every component. Upon reassembly, the machine works better and is much quieter. The only thing is that the dvdrom isn't working properly. It has power and responds if I open the tray. If I put a disc in the drive, the disc spins up as it normally would, but the computer doesn't even recognize the existence of the drive! It's not showing up at all under device manager. Does anybody know what could cause this?

what did I do when fixing dv2000 laptops with broken drives... I can't remember too well

bad controller, bad drive, faulty cable, faulty connection, disabled in bios or bad memory...

You may have zapped the drive. Did you use an anti-static mat and wrist-strap?

No :(. Though everything else appears to work flawlessly.

Try taking it apart and putting it back together. Something may not have been seated correctly. There's a connector at the end of the bay where the DVD drive plugs in. If the case isn't assembled just right and that connector isn't lined up just so, the DVD's connector may not line up correctly.
