Electric Bikes - Stores in Toronto Area selling Folding E-bikes???

Total newbie looking to buy 2 new (or good used) ebikes. I want them to be folding bikes with around 20-24 inch wheels. I am trying to keep the size down as I am planning on bringing them in our RV for trips and the smaller they fold the better.

I have been trying to read up on batteries. I am thinking I would like to go Lithium Ion as it is lighter and I think I heard in addition to being more expensive they last A LOT longer? I really don't know much about it.

These bikes need to comfortably carry around 200lb passengers. I want the type that goes on battery power only, or you can pedal assist in addition to being able to just pedal and go without using the battery.

I would like to get at least a 3 speed gearing as when using pedal power only 1 speed is inadequate.

I am really hoping to get these and spend no more than $1000. Cdn each. I am happy to order online if it is from a reputable site that ships from Canada and I do not have to pay duty and international brokerage fees.

One last thing I will mention is like my signature I have 2 folders already, but from what I have read, converting them is very expensive although the hubby is good with cars and fixing things he doesn't know anything much about bikes.

These guys have a good reputation in the e-bike community. See if there is any of those bikes that look good to you. I think they all use lithium.

His name is Terry. I've never bought from there but he's sold kits to other people and there hasn't been any complaints so far. You can also ask questions about different e-bikes on that forum (endless-sphere) above. You might get more responses. I built my own so I know more about the kits than I do the ready-made e-bikes.

Also, might ask on endless-sphere forum and there might be someone who will help you install it if you want to go with a kit. Lots of e-bikers in Ontario, Canada.

These guys http://ebikes.ca are in Vancouver, BC, Canada but I don't know if they sell ready-made e-bikes or not but they might be able to help you find what you need. I bought my kit from them and they were very helpful.

Daymak (http://www.daymak.com) sells Chinese-made e-bikes. The build quality of some of their models is poor, though, I helped someone who bought one from them and, boy, I wouldn't recommend them.

Thanks, jeanluc. I was looking at Daymak as they have a retail outlet 5 mins from my house. Glad you told me about this. I am now very interested in the Airstream folding electric bike. As I mentioned in another thread they are coming out with a new model this May, the 811. I am looking forward to seeing specs and pics of it if I haven't already bought by then. I am seriously looking at the Airstream that they sell via sear.ca. It is a folder, lithium 36v battery and is a stronger motor, etc. All available specs are on sears.ca if anyone is interested.
As for Hightekbikes, they do not seem to list prices. I am already going over my budget as it looks like I will be spending upwards of $1400. UGGGhhhh. Of course this price is doubled as I am buying 2 of them!

If this is for travelling in the city of Toronto, i recommend you pay close attention to the bike frame and wheel size.

Thanks alfonsopilato, but we have an RV and want to have folding electric bikes for exploring when we go away. I was originally looking to get an electric scooter (the type that is like the Razor scooter with a seat - but was looking at Currie eZip), but we decided to get electric bicycles as we can use them here at home, or in any Provincial park, or on any road in Canada for that matter. In fact we just put a deposit down last night for 2 Airstreams. It is a new model not yet on their web site. 36V Lithium Polymer battery, 350 watt motor, 20" wheel folding electric bikes. We will get them in about 5 weeks. I can't wait!!

Yes, as long as you understand the limitations of the vehicle, then you're the wiser.

When I went out on my foldable bike, I didn't know what I was getting into, as I was using it for serious travelling (15 km each way , to work) . For recreational purposes, it's definitely a good thing to have, lightweight and storage friendly.
