hello all,

I went mountainbiking today. Serious as far as im concerded mountainbikeing. first time since i was a kid.

here is the route. The Syfydrin Trail http://www.nantyrarian.com/cycletrails.php

it certainly was beautiful scenery only problem i was hanging on for dear life and thus could only appreciate it whilst my friend who loaned me his "rockhopper" stopped for breathers, something a brompton rider does need when changing to a bike with a luxurious....27!!!! gears!!! :)

any way i thought he was mad for going at such speeds but understand why people go on such routes. however i do feel touring is rather more.... sufisticated

I'd like to try the brompton nect time :thumb: and get off and walk where it gets too XXXXXtreame. or just buy an airnimal rhino.

anyway the reason for this post is I was speaking to this guy about those "terriable" folding bike and he recommended this

Ibis tranny

just thought you lot might be intrested.

cheers.

Yes the Ibis Tranny can be separated:

Also the Bike Friday 29"er "Chocolate" is an ingenious, strong and light folding MTB:

However - you can do similar "folding" with many standard full suspension bikes as well:

Nikolai provides this fold (Helios CC Travel (http://www.nicolai.net/products_de/e-frames/e-helius-cc-trv.html)). Very expensive. But you can do this type of fold with most 4link suspension frames. There is nothing special you need. It is a common Allen wrench to open one link. And take rear wheel out before, of course.
Some models, however, might have a conflict with front dereilleur. Or with rear dereilleur. Or with stay between asymmetric chainstays.

I don't know exactly which frame is shown in the photo above, but similar frames are the Poison Arsen or the Canyon Nerve. This is a very common frame design, you can get it for reasonnable price. There you need two screws to open a link. Some other frames might be better suited, with only one srew to open. And probably you can fit a quick release ;-)

There's the Rhino, BF Llama (unsuspended), and Dahon Jetstream Ex - and also KHE and Giant might have bikes for (ligtht) off road. But the Ibis Tranny surely is a different beast.
