Cyclocross - Which has the better value? Specialized or Fuji?

So, I'm considering getting one of these two brands. Not planning to spend over $2200. From Specialized, there's the Expert and Comp. From Fuji, there's the Cross Pro and Cross Comp. Of course, the Expert is the highest cost of them allat 2200, and the Cross Comp would be the cheapest at 1300.

Trying to keep cost as low as possible, but on the other hand, I don't want to pay less for cheap parts.

I think the Specialized is a bit better value, it has a better wheel set, and I believe the frame and fork are one of the best out there. That being said the Specialized has a more relaxed geometry better for long rides and touring, while the Fuji is more aggressive, better suited for racing, or if you just like the quicker bike that can take turns sharper, and ultimately that's what matters most.

Some other things to take note of...
- I'm part of the Clydes crew at 235
- No plans on racing. This would mostly be used on roads and light trails.

If you're talking about resale value, Specialized will hold it's value better than a Fuji.

I ride commuterized Tricross Comp 2008, both front and back racks. In 14 months I never had to true a wheel and I am a light Athena. Very stable at low speeds. Nice componentry too. Just make sure those awful Boroughs gotta go!!!!

i purchased a 2009 Cross Comp. I am relatively new to cycling and especially cyclocross, but so far I can tell you I have been very satisfied. I ride about 60 miles a week (commuting).

I am not sure if it matters, but you can score a brand new Cross Comp for 8-900ish if you go to a local Performance shop (not sure if you already patronize a LBS). That is what I did. That makes this bike a great value. I do not know anything about the Specialized, so I can't help you there.

I have 2 Specialized Tricross Comps. I love them very much. I do think that Fuji has the more bang for the buck than Specialized. Specialized is more expensive, but I truly think that the frame on the Comp model is better than any Fuji at any level and it's got the nicest ride of any aluminum bike I've ridden and as good as most carbon frame bikes. Comfort wise that is. I agree with the Borough tire statement above. The Borough Armadillo version is very nice though. low rolling resistance and comfortable.

Performance right now has the 09 Cross Comp with 105 and Ultegra RD for $799. You are not going to find a better value than that.

The wheels on the Fuji are not the greatest but with the money you are saving you could get yourself some way better wheels and still be under budget compared to the cost of the Specialized.

It's just been my experience as the Craigslist junkie that I am. Obviously, there is no published data on used bike sale prices, but I'm sure if we could poll everyone here on BF, they would agree. Fuji sometimes gets an undeserved bad rep because they are sold by Performance Bike.

Beyond that Specialized is a huge name, second only to Trek as far general knowledge about the company goes. Specialized as a company gets a lot more respect than Fuji, there is no two ways about it. As a bike salesman I'll second your statement that a Specialized is going to have a better resale value than a Fuji, doesn't make it a better bike, but worth thinking about.
