My wife, son, and I are giving some serious thought to riding the Petit Train du Nord all the way up and back in June. I was speaking to a friend who lives part time in Montreal and he said that the paved section up north is in very rough condition. Can anyone either confirm or deny this claim? I've ridden some of the hardpack section which was in excellent shape.

Did it last year - not sure I would describe it as "very rough" but there are a few sections that had heaved pavement -- enough to create short runs of "washboard effect". They seemed to be clearly marked though -- it didn't make a large difference in the pace. We managed to do the section from Mont Laurier to Mont Tremblant in single day (about the same time it took to do the St. Jerome to Mont Tremblant scection).
