Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am being recruited by a firm to Boca Raton, FL. Can any locals fill me in on the cycling scene? Any pointers where the affordable housing is located?
Thanks.

Affordable housing in Boca....HA HA HA HA...that's funny!! What do you mean by "affordable"? Boca is one of the more expensive areas in South East Florida to live. You might want to look at Boynton Beach, which is north of Boca or Wellington, which is North East. Anything south of there is Broward County, which offers a whole new world of problems.
Now, for the more important part of your question, the cycling. I dont' love the cycling there. I lived in the area for 7 years, and it is rough to find great places to ride. Anything by the ocean is good, but busy. Tons of people work out there, from walkers, to rollar bladers, to cyclists.
You can always go west, but you'll have to drive to get there. South Florida roads are busy, and people are not the best drivers there. Be really careful.
Where are you moving from? What kind of housing are you looking for? Are you working in Boca or somewhere near by.

Yeah, I guess I wrote that half in jest. I am having sticker shock. I guess I need a 3 bedroom house in a decent school district. I really don't want to have to spend more than 250K. I will be working very close to the Boca Raton Country Club.

Ouch. I am sorry to hear that it is hard to find a good ride. This is more of a downer than realizing that I may have to sell my children to relocate to BR.

Boca's a nice community. Expensive yes, but nice.
I live in Ft. Lauderdale. You can easily look in northern Broward. Find something nice, in your price range.
There is lots of great riding down here. Boca Raton Bicycle club is one of the better groups in the area.
My bike club, South Broward Wheelers, has some members that drive down from Boca to ride as well.

Here is the link to my club's "cycling clubs links page". Boca, Delray, and West Palm all have nice clubs.
Riding A1A early in the morning is one really nice ride. but it does get a bit busy later in the morning, especially in season.

ChipRGW,
Thanks for the pointers. How are the schools down in Fort Lauderdale? I noticed that the housing is a little more affordable down that way. I have also heard good things about Westin, any comments?
For the last 9 years, I have spent a week a year in Ft Lauderdale. However, it was for a convention so other than the beach and bars, I know very little about the real estate situation. I have just taken up cycling, but I have enjoyed running A1A early in the morning many times.
I will check out your club.
If I think that I can afford the move, I will probably come down that way this Fall.
Thanks.
Greg
