Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. with so much concern about supplements and nutrition, etc I may have gone a tad over what my intake should be. so I'm backing off cuz I figure it's more important that I actually do the training than what exactly I consume.

you can't grow muscle from just eating but you'll grow muscle even if you don't take protein supplements so long as you comply to your training schedule

i.e., be less concerned with all the complicated foods and drinks and just get the training done.

that's like asking what do i need for success - talent or hard work ?

BOTH !

training is what most affects performance

nutrition is what most affects weight and health

steroids is what most affects muscle size.

the three are mostly unrelated to each other.

So, I'll ask again- what are your goals?

As stated above, it depends on your objectives.

If you are trying to lose weight, than limiting your calorie intake is probably the most important thing. No matter how much you train, you can probably eat more than enough to add weight if you eat the right goodies.

If your objective is improving atheletic performance, then training is more important. That assumes that you have an adequate diet that does not have you putting on weight.

As mentioned above, doing both is the easiest/safest way if wt. loss and/or fitness is your end goal. Without knowing what you are looking for, it is hard to give any more detailed advice.

Agreed. All those bodybuilders and people taking all those supplements all they are enhancing is their risk of cancer, kidney, liver failure and a short lifespan.

Agreed. More important to cut calories to lose weight. More important to do the workouts to get stronger. But cutting calories doesn't have to mean worse nutrition.

Everything in moderation, including training. For me it's fitness first, then worry about re-balancing my caloric intake to target modest weight loss. If there is contention between the two fitness should come first with bodyfat being a better indicator than pure wight.
