Need tips/sites for proper handle bar and hood position

Trying to get the best set up for me but would like to read any guides or hints/tips I can find before I mess with them too much

This is for a road bike

a good starting point is to run a straight-edge from the flat part of the drops (i use an old plastic ruler) forward of the bars and have the bottom of the lever touch it, then tighten the allen bolt.

Adjust for personal preference from here.
