BMX - chainwheel AGAIN

i was wondering what a good chain wheel size would be for me? i ride flatland......but i want to be able to ride to the store (about half a mile) with out pedaling 500,000 times
im running a 16tooth freewheel

anyone?

What are you riding now? It's been a while since I messed with single speed stuff, but 46-48 seems to be sticking in my head. Also, your hub isn't a flip-flop is it? If it is, you could throw a 15 on the other side and switch it when you are riding longer. When I was racing we had 2 very different tracks nearby, and I'd swap over depending on which track I was racing.

Im goin to tell you something that you can find on every thread. Go to danscomp.com and check out the sizing charts in particular the gear ratio chart. You probably want something on the lower side close to normal riding. Just mess around on that site it will answer tons of questions

44 tooth is stock standard. Typically flatlanders run a little bit easier to pedal, some may go as low as 36 or even 32 with a 16 tooth freewheel.

I recommend nothing smaller than 40 teeth and nothing larger than 44 teeth. The smaller it gets the EASIER it is to pedal, which is good for flatland, but tough for getting around town. So, I would say 40... maybe 39.

Those numbers sound better than mine now that you mention them. I think I went as high as a 46 and as low as a 37 in my box. I believe the wife rode a 39 on her cruiser and I tended to ride a 42 with the flip flop making the difference. Thanks for the brain rattle there, been messing with big tires too long!

i thought about a flip flop hub but i didnt get it
my shop told me 36......i already had a cheap walmart bike with a 36 so i tried it out and it was a little to easy.......so i put my original back on

If you ride flatland and are serious about it, then eventually you will want a Nankai freecoaster with 11 tooth one-piece driver from www.flatlandfuel.com

They are the ONLY current freecoaster that has a very high reputation among all riders. A little pricey, but it should last you several years after you get it.

im serious about flatland.....if i get the freecoaster what should i run on the chainwheel?

Probably around a 27 or so if you still want to get around town AND your brakes aren't mounted on your chainstays (low). If you stop caring about getting around town you can run down to the smallest size they make which is like 23 teeth or so. It's close to a 2:1 ratio which is really easy to pedal, but it's really good for flatland and totally out of the way.

im getting a new bike made for flatland....the dk signal....do you think i should leave the chainwheel where it is or get a new one?
