because i think some teeth are thicker or wider than others.......if you have a think chainwheel or freewheel and a thin chain it wouldnt fit......get what im saying

some chains are build with different shaped links for different kinds of riding. Also some chainwheels and freewheels are bigger than others so you would need a bigger chain, others could be smaller and a big chain would fall off. It also depends on what kind of weather conditions you ride your bike in, how hard you push your bike, and how well you take care of it. I use the thickest chain i could buy it weights more but when your ride in rain, snow, and ice and beat the hell out of your bike its definitely worth it.
