My parents, in their 70's, just came back from a couple months in Florida. WHile there they borrowed bikes from my brother and his in-laws, and rode almost every day.

So now they want to pick up a couple comfort style bikes. I can handle figuring out what bikes will suit their budgets. But I know nothing about hitch mount racks.

Any recommendations for basic hitch mount racks that can carry two bikes?

Also - mom is lookign for a "girl's style" bike -- how do those work on a hitch mount rack?

To mount a bike without a top tube they sell adapters that attach between the seatpost and headtube area. These adapters make a temporary top tube that can then be slid onto the arm style bike racks.

Another option would be to get a platform style rack for your parents. This style of rack can be significantly easier to put bikes on.

Check out Saris, Thule and Yakima. There are a few other better quality rack manufacturers but I am not up on all of them. One example of a platform style rack:
