I am looking to purchase my first real road bike for recreational use and cross training for my other interests. After test riding a few different bikes, I tend to favor the ride provided by a steel frame and the ergonomics of Campy components. However, I've budgeted $1200 for my purchase. I might be able to convince myself to go up to $1400, as I can get a Bianchi Veloce at that price and I like that bike quite a bit. Are there other worthwhile steel framed bikes with Campy components around my price range that I should consider? I would also be interested in any aluminium frames with carbon stays that could give me a similar ride, but at this price range I don't know if that's feasible (I have tested the Bianchi Giro). Any help for this newbie?
