Was on my way home and found Huntington in Jamaica Plain blocked off with lots of cops. Got to the area and saw a bent up bike and, from the amount of blood in the road, it was a pretty serious accident. Anyone know what happened?

Really scary to me personally (beyond my fear for the cyclist) as I've been getting my gear ready to start commuting in Boston for the first time. (sorry if this should go in commuter)

My prayers go out to all involved.

I have no Idea what happened but I can tell you this. It is unfortunate that something like this happened but these things do happen. Do not let the misfortune of someone else stop you from what you want to do. I ride my bike through an intersection every day that I saw a young girl and her friends drove under a moving tractor trailer. It was a very disturbing accident to me because the girl died, I saw the wreck and I am in the trucking business. This is a bad intersection and it creeps me out every time I ride my bike through it. I do not let it stop me from living my life but I give the intersection a Little more caution than others. Life is deadly & bad things can happen to good people but don't let what could happen stop you from living.

"the still unidentified bicyclist tried passing the bus on the left, lost control, then slipped under the bus."

Christ, that sucks.

That was nasty, Poor SOB. I have herd of people getting there bikes stuck in the Green Line tracks & I know the area well. I didn't realize it was as common as it is. I still don't know how he wound up under the back left wheel of the bus

The only thing I can figure is that he was trying to pull it out and the rear swung wider than the front (articulated buses sometimes appear to do that), or something suddenly gave and he slipped as it passed him.

There were several reports from witnesses who said that the cyclist actually had gotten trapped in the E line tracks and was standing in the road trying to free his bike when the bus came barreling through that big intersection and hit him. One of the girls who works at the Other Side saw it happen on her way to work and that's the story I heard from her too. Knowing the MBTA's safety track record and the daily battle bikers and pedestrians have with those busses, it would not surprise me at all if their official story was crap.

Given the way the story has changed (first published reports said what you did, then they changed it to him trying to pass the bus on the left), I'm not sure that we're ever going to know the truth. I think it's the whole him only getting hit by the back end of the bus that makes it hard to understand unless that's just a cover up.

it's hard to know what happened. the Globe article said he didn't have a helmet on

even if you're extra careful when cycling but when it's time to go you can't really do anything...
