Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Just a heads up to anyone in NYC with an iPhone

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There's an app called "spokes NYC" that works just like your current gps app, but routes according to bike lanes. You can also search for shops etc.
Price = free.

Description
Spokes NYC is a bicycle routing application designed to generate ideal bike routes with turn by turn directions for New York City cyclists. Other features include a bike rack locator, a bike shop locator, and the ability to report thefts from a given bike rack. Future features will include showing the safety of parking a bike in a given location (based on number of thefts reported to Spokes NYC), allowing users to add bike racks that aren't currently cataloged by Spokes NYC, and a list of suggested rides (for leisure).
Spokes NYC bike routes may not be the most direct from point A to point B. Instead, we try to create routes that prioritize a cyclist's safety without taking you too far out of your way. Our routing engine will always try to keep you riding on bike paths and Greenways or streets with bike lanes as opposed to riding on plain old streets.
Need a bike shop nearby? No sweat! Spokes NYC has a catalog of nearly 200 bike shops citywide complete with contact information and a tap-to-call feature. One tap will show you which ones are closest to you.
Looking for a safe place to park your wheels? Nearby bike racks are also just a tap away! Spokes NYC can point you to one of over 5000 bike racks citywide. You can also see how many thefts have been reported from a given rack which might make you think twice about leaving your bike there. If you are the victim of a bike theft, we want to know about it! This information will help your fellow cyclists to make smarter decisions about where to safely lock up. Soon, Spokes NYC will enable you to report thefts not only from bike racks, but from any location.
Now to head over to Chari for this Iphone stem holder:

It should work fine on the touch, but you would need a wifi signal as with any other internet-accessing app.
I might have to snag one of those iphone holders...

Download it and try it. It's FREE!
I used it last night on a group ride and it took me on a totally different and more direct route to Prospect park than I usually follow.
