This past weekend I bought a watch with an altimeter. Can't stop but setting it whenever I go up a hill. How high and steep is any given hill, -whether I am driving or biking.
The watch is a Casio Forester. Think they are pretty accurate. ?Found an elevation mark and calibrated it. Now it seems pretty accurate.Seems they respond a little belatedly.
Would have gotten a bike speedometer with altimeter. But bike altimeters/speedometers not so easy to use when hiking.

Your new watch sounds cool, hope you enjoy it!

For altitude, I just follow my nose--if it starts to bleed, I know I'm either at a high altitude, or I fell off my bike and got a concussion I don't remember... :eek:

If the map is innaccurate and the road is not marked properly, then altimeters are really useful for navigation. You can tell where you are from the contour lines or spot heights.

I think AVOCET makes one for hiking that is adaptable to a bike.

Not sure all altimeters work like my watch/altimeter. They work off of barometric pressure. Pressure changes the altimeter must be re-calibrated to a know altitude to reflect the new barometric pressure?
