Northeast - Favorite Bike Shop (Bergen County)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I couldn't find anything like this using the search function so I figured I would just ask.

I'd like to hear some input on Local Shops.

I currently use Cycle Sport, right in Park Ridge.

The guys I've dealt with seem really competent.

Just to add, I picked up my bike yesterday. I bought it used and it was in rough shape, front derailleur, cranks, chain rings, brakes and rims all had to be replaced. I did all the work the myself, stripped her down cleaned the bolts and greased is all up, but was having trouble with the front derailleur alignment. Brought it into Cycle Sport, and for a very reasonable about they adjusted the derailleur as well as went over the whole bike and trued the tires. I liked them before that but now I'll be using them exclusively.

The guys at cyclesport are extremely nice and better yet, competant. I live in Rockland and work in Montvale and they've walked me through so much of getting started in riding. From trainer nights over the winter with Ramon to the Wednesday evening and Saturday morning B-Rides, I can say they're organized, and an all around great bunch of guys.

Outside of that, I see a ton of Westwood Cycle jersey's riding around on my lunch break, and Toga! over in Nyack I hear is alright. Those are the only big ones I really know of, though there are a bunch down rt 17.

Oh, and Cyclesport is back in their home location in Park Ridge, no longer next to Davey's in Montvale (they were there after the fire)

Opps, I knew they were back, just picked up my bike last night don't know why I typed Montvale.

I have been to Westwood Cycle a number of times, right when I started getting serious about riding. They gave me some pretty poor suggestions, I was pedal shopping and didn't know anything about clipless pedals and I ended up leaving with mountain bike pedals for my road bike. That's how new I was to cycling. Anyway, once I found out there was a much better option they were really nice about the return and in the end I bought my Looks from them. In Westwood Cycle's defense, they just finished redoing the store so things are a bit scattered so my experience may not be a great judge of their true qualities.

I also have a friend who swears by Bicycle Depot in Pearl River, NY.... but they always seem to be closed when I want to go there.
