Commuting - No Showers At Work

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. There are no showers where I work. Anyone else face the same problem as far as no showers is concerned? Any suggestions on how to clean up?

There have been many threads on this. The concensus is, and I can attest to this from years of experience, a quick rinse/sponge off is quite adequate. Just drying off is really sufficient. Sweat does not smell right away, and if you even just dry off, you will not have BO. It's when you perspire and remain wet for hours, say working in the yard all day, that you start to smell.

I think I could do a decent job of cleaning up with a big sponge and a sink if I had to..The large cleaning towels make it easy..
I would have to rinse off... I Would be impossible if I could not.

I've used baby wipes for awhile and been happy with that. Comes out to around $0.03 per wipe.
Then I just keep some face wash, lotion, deoderant and cologne at work.
Wear something wicking. Just make sure to cool down for 10-15 minutes before drying off. Go into the bathroom and wipe yourself down with some wet paper napkins and add a little deodorant or body spray and you're good.

I have been commuting without showers for 2 years now (in the Phoenix Arizona area) and have not had problems. Just remember to cool down the last few miles.
If you're bald or shave your head, you can wipe down easier!

Thanks for the advice. I am working on this area also. I work in an elementary school, and unlike the Middle schools and high schools we have no locker room shower facility.

I have showers in the health club downstairs but find that I only use them on the hottest of days. Usually I take a cool-off lap around the parking decks go inside wipe myself down, change and I'm ready to go.

Also finding the right kind of deodorant can help...I use a natural crystal deodorant like the ones at:

Do you have access to an outdoor faucet and hose????
Just kidding. I normally just wipe myself dry with paper towels. Either I don't smell badly or my co-workers are too polite to say anything.
How about the janitor's closet? There's usually a big utility sink that you could use more easily than the restroom. Also, you could hang your clothes and possibly your bike in there. (Depends on how friendly you are with the janitors.)

lol I was thinking about making a thread like this. I hate riding to school all sweaty and stuff. I just bring a little towel and dry off in the AC :)
(ohhh, first post)
While we have a shower here at work, I wouldn't use it without a Haz Mat suit. I don't think it's been cleaned since day one.
I've been quite content with baby wipes. Usually I ease up on the ride about a mile out. I then sit outside on the bench for 5-10 minutes while I suck down the contents of a water bottle, watch the day dawn and endure the "Morning Lance" comments. By then I've cooled off and more or less stopped sweating.
I keep my hair short (basically crewed) and wear shirts, shorts and doo-rags which will wick away the moisture.
