i recently did a solo cycling tour across utah. while riding i sometimes wore one of the retro postal jerseys that the team wore on the final day of the tour last year. thats the lead in heres the story :)
as i was leaving bryce canyon i guy asked me if i was sponsored by the post office. now i can haul myself around on a loaded bike fairly well, but i in know way look anything like a pro or even semi pro athelete. so i said, "no, i just bought a jersey so i guess i help sponsor them." :).
about 2 hours later as i was leaving a c-store a lady in a van flaged me down. having seen my jersey and loaded bike she asked if i was the mailman for the area (keep in mind it was 105 degrees out, and it seemed like it was a good 20 miles between houses :) you'd have to find a good size group of very dedicated cyclists to get much mail delivered). i said no i just bought a jersey. she asked if she could take my picture, saying she was a postmaster in wisconsin and when she got back from vacation she was going to show it to her co-workers and tell them thats how they deliver mail in utah :).
i got asked if i was the local mail man atleast 2 more times during my trip, and one of those was also a postmaster.
this post is not meant to poke fun at the people they were very nice and i enjoyed talking to them, and it made my tour more interesting, i was kind of starting to feel like a celebrity :). and i just thought folks here might enjoy it. but i guess a lot of folks (even postmasters) dont realize that for a good while the USPS sponsored one of the best cycling teams in the world.
