Is this an osprey? They tell me that's made for osprey.

About the same size as the 24" wheels on the trike. About the same length as Bailey.

Don't know why this last photo makes the turtle look so small. She's father away than it looks. Good thing turtles are slow on land. I would not want to mess with this one in the water. I can't imagine there are any predators for this thing in New England except man.

Could very well be an osprey- the nest certainly fits. I would need to to see the claws to be sure(they are large, formidable looking talons).

Oooh, that's a big ol' snapper. Mean SOBs. They'll take fingers and toes right off.

that certainly does look like a bird of prey of some type.

Something in the photog world about depth of view. The best examples on the net are people holding fish at arms length in front of them. Turns a minnow into a lunker.

Signs of spring? Swarms of bugs along the MUP. :notamused:

yes, to the osprey. they have that marked black stripe on their head. they also have a very distinct loud chirp when disturbed. they are the only bird of prey to get submerged when fishing. I saw a couple of Martha's Vineyard once while we were beaching. they dove into the water came back our with a fish, elevated above the water and then shook like a dog to remove the excess water before flying again. astonishing!

baby turtles emerge from under-sand nests in June in my area (I think)

for me this is the sign of spring - the coed midrift

I saw a pair of birds I assumed were osprey last year in that nest. One of them brought a huge live fish to the nest while I was watching. That was amazing too.

Had a few found it's way my mouth the other day. Also, spotted a garden snake cross the MUP in a hurry as I was approaching. Saw a coyote too had it's eyes on ducks wading near the shore of the lake. Sure is sign of spring, I see more wildlife out there.
