Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Pogliaghi questions

Ok, I bought a Pogliaghi road bike when I was in high school (earl 1990's). I had Dura Ace componentry put on it. Shop owner said the frame had been in his basement "forever." I am the original/only owner. Anyway, after listing it on craigslist, I think I drastically underestimated its value (I put $125).

From the serial number and this site, I believe it was made in the early 1970's:

From the Sheldon Brown site, I feel like its value should be around $1,000? The paint job is original (kind of an antique white) in great condition. All original decals.

It has four sweet looking stamps on the frame - two "Pogliaghi's" and two that look like "SP" or something.

My photo isn't the best, but we just moved and the decent camera is MIA...

$125 is way too low $750 is my guess. SP may be the tuning although SP may be overkill for a mid size frame?

$600 - $750 seems like a good and fair value.

You already listed it for $125, and I presume you've received tons of offers?

Eat it and sell it to someone for $125, or find a different market (eBay) to sell it for the $750, for the Craigslist folk will band against you after you jack the price on them.

+1 Stick a fork in Craigs List. You pretty much have ticked off everyone on it. So you will get flagged or flamed. Also, a nicer bike like yours is hard to get full value out of on Craigs List anyway. In my area, the bikes that sell on C/L are in the $100 to $250 range. And occasionally you can get $400. Over that mark, even for really sweet stuff, its almost impossible to get it. The nicer/higher end stuff needs to go to ebay.

Note, to get full value out of it, you are going to have to take some outstanding pictures, full sized and write a great ad. Buyers will want close ups of the components, all decals and labels, and the frame lugs. Search completed auctions on ebay, and look for the ones that went for top dollar. Use those ads as a template.

I did a search on CL nationally for Pogliaghis, and came up with one with a pro repaint and campy asking $950, a frame with peeling decals for $550, and one other completed listing for $1100.

Possibly this bike could fetch more than $750? It would be good to have clearer pictures showing the condition.

Generally that is true but I think it depends on the area - My own experience in the Detroit area is that I can do way better on CL than eBay - if the item is presented really well.
People from all over Michigan look at the Detroit listings, and I have had people come from Ohio as well for Trek road bikes and such -( though I must say that I have not tried to flip a Pogliaghi lately! )

Ok, thanks for the advice, great point about good pictures and great ad (and I finally found my decent camera - we just moved, so it had disappeared amongst all the boxes). I've found a couple ebay ads to use as a starter.

I don't know about ruling out craigslist though, I replied to everyone who asked originally and told them why I had to pull the ad. Around 15 people wrote back to say that they would still be interested when I came up with a more reasonable price. A couple asked to contact them before I posted it again. We'll see I guess.

Oooh Ahh - Nice!

My bike's serial number is 97## (not sure if I'm being paranoid not wanting to post all four digits?). Anyway, here is another site seeming to indicate that the bike was made in 1970's. However, the color / decals just do not look that old. As other posters stated, the bike just looks mid 1980's. Any thoughts?
