Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - So I accidentally bought a frame...

Yep, I tossed up a bid on eBay. The listing was vague and ambiguous. I was just testing the water, but low and behold I ended up a frame delivered to the house yesterday.

Ooops.

Another bike to build.

It's an old Fraysse shop bike. All chrome Vitus with campy ends---nice surprise---. I'm not really a chrome guy, so I'm at a loss on this build. Maybe some box section wheels with gumwall tires.

First thing's first, getting this threadless headset off somehow, and trying to find a way to justify another bike without getting rid of one. :innocent:

i think box section wheels sound good, but get some smoke grey rims and spokes. don't want to get too bright with the frame. what's wrong with the threaded headset? at least replace it with a nice campy piece or something classy and rounded. king maybe. i dunno.

Mike Fraysse made and/or imported Paris Sport bikes back in the 70s. Super nice custom bikes.

Here is one that belongs to my teammate. It's from the early 70s with a fresh chrome job. Lugged Reynolds 531 with campy track ends, dropouts, cranks, & BB.:

It's a threadless setup, as of right now.

The frame also came with an unoriginal fork. It's threaded, but the stem has been shimmed to fit/... a la kind of work.

Yeah, that is a fresh-looking chrome dip, Carleton. I needed a little inspiration to spark up some ideas on this build.

Digging the pink Visp, too. Here's to happy accidents. :)

I feel I got a good deal on it. Did I shell out too much scratch...around here, definitely.

although I'd prefer to see it built up with a threaded fork/headset/quill stem...
and some boxed chrome or black rims would like nice on there too

rustybrown - that frame looks pretty sweet. I'm a sucker for chrome. Throw lugs into the mix and I'm drooling. My beard is soaked right now.

Yea that's a pretty sweet accidental buy. My favorite frame in my collection was an accidental, may as well, here it is I got the cash buy.

I also got my VISP accidentally that way. Tossed out a $75 max bid and really didn't expect to win, since all previous auctions closed at over $100. To my amazement, I ended up winning it for just $51. Shipping was actually more @ $70. Still, $121 ain't bad for a pretty good, albeit very heavy, frame with fork and headset. :)

The chrome Paris Sport looks pretty similar to the one I have. Does it have wrap around seatstays? I wish mine was chrome under the paint but with how much I have beat it up, I wouldn't invest the money. It is a great frame and has been through a lot. Paris Sport was actually the shop and Mike Fraysse imported bike boom stuff that was sometimes badged Paris Sport. He also had nicer stuff like the Vitus frames (I've mostly seen glued aluminum ones with unpolished silver joints). The shop had a basement that was used for builders and several "names" started out or built there. Dave Moulton, Limongi, Cuevas, etc.

Fraysse now has a training camp in upstate NY. He sells stuff on Ebay these days too. I bought a pair of already chopped down Cinelli LA 84 pursuit bars a few years ago. I'ved my frame for 7 or 8 years and a friend had originally bought it from a different seller on Ebay in 2000 or 2001.

Maybe Brown saddle and with moustache handlebars? White accents?

Very heavy, I have one too. Frame + fork + headset = 2.9 kg = 6.5 lbs. Good thing, it rides like an old Cadillac Eldorado.

Yeah, it's got wrap around seat stays. And no discernible serial numbers or pantographing. This frame could have been either way...in-shop build or an import. I'm hoping it was the former, but no skin off my back.

I've seen Fraysse on the Bay. He recently had a set of Roval track wheels on there. Almost pulled the trigger on that one. He's certainly got a lot of French parts. Wish I had known that when tearing apart my Peugeot.

Good news, I've got parts coming in at the LBS tomorrow so I can get a start on this build.
