Folding Bikes - Velocity Rims

Im looking at finding a 16" 36 hole rim to install a kick back 2 spd with coaster brake on my Brompton. Which is now configuered as a s/s.
Anyone know if the Velocity Aeroheat is a decent rim? Am open to other brands if some are better,availability could be a problem and i imagine 36 hole would be a pita to air up.
Im looking to eliminate cables etc. This hub would make things tidy and fun i think.

I like Velocity rims .. if you are going to build a wheel around a 36h Duomatic in a 16" wheel, I'd suggest lacing to a 24h rim.. Here's a picture of my latest project using a Sachs 2 Speed Automatic and also of my Dahon Mu Duo .. both are using 24h rims to 36h hubs..

Very interesting. How many different spoke lengths did you have to use? Very tidy looking,should be strong enough. Im still trying to find out whether the new Sturmey hub will fit width wise or whether i will have to cold set.

I used one spoke length per wheel (451 and 700c) .. that's the beauty of going with a hub that is centered in the wheel .. no dish ..

to use a 36h hub with 24h rim, you need to use a cross length of 2.17x, which you can calculate with the spocalc off of the sheldon/rinard web page.

Cool! I've long thought that the combo of the kickback hub with the Brompton would be wonderful. You get the beautiful Brompton fold without cables going to the back.

The catalogue shows a special order 28 hole so i could use my stock rim which i like even better as it retains the original look. And it looks like i would only have to cold set a max. of 4mm. This is starting my thought processes going even more now. It may be a few months but i think i will do this time permitting, Possibly order what i need to do it and leave it till winter as i want to do quite a bit of light touring in summer with my new Surly LHT. How ever with parts here i bet i would find the time. Will update when i think this all through.

ddez: Velocity rims are very good rims, but a bit expensive. I am also looking forward on building a 355 rear wheel using the new S2C, which is expected for release on June 2010. Let me know if you are able to source the 28H version in Canada. Also, you might be able to remove/replace one of the nuts to reduce the width if the final products is as pictured here:

AEO: Thanks for the info on the cross length, been looking for that info everywhere. What if I decide to do a 1X cross instead of 2? Will it be 1.085X instead? Thanks

Will let you know,i guess my LBS buddy wants one too,so we will order together when available. Im hoping to keep stock rim. Will have to get some spokes made up as cant really cut stock spokes down there butted.

Aeroheats and Aeroheads are both excellent rims - bombproof with that profile at that size. I know cos I've fitted both to my B.
