Advocacy & Safety - are there any official statistics on cycling in Portland?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have seen the data from Streetsblog:
http://www.streetsblog.org/2007/09/28/portland-sees-explosive-growth-in-bike-commuting/

and this crash data from the Oregonian. http://blog.oregonlive.com/oregonianextra/2007/10/bikes.html

But does anyone know of any more recent studies... since the new bike lanes have been installed?

new bikelanes?

cities like portland need to take the next logical step and begin removing entire traffic lanes from the cars and making them bike-only.

MUCH BIGGER class II bikelanes across key routes in town and out into the neighborhoods/suburbs timed to a green wave speed. bike specific traffic signals, and limited/restricted access to turns by motor vehicles. motor vehicles can always circle the block and backtrack if there are turn restrictions on significant bicycle corridors similar to other types of limited access roadways.

Yeah the new colored dedicated bike lanes that put cyclists to the right of parked cars vice to the left of parked cars. I recall there was quite a discussion here about those new lanes... so what is the current situation?

These new bikelanes?

NEW BIKE LANES (http://bikeportland.org/2009/09/14/a-ride-on-downtown-portlands-new-buffered-bike-lanes/)

There's a variety of new bikeway in portland, some are just much wider bikelanes NOT to the right of parked cars.

I'd defer to anyone a couple hundred miles south of me, but think the facilities are so new i doubt the city has officially released counts yet. maybe during their annual counts the data will get crunched.

I think bridge counts actually declined last year in portland but suspect this is more due to a downturn in the economy rather than less cycling in portland.
