I had a couple of days off during the week so decided to hold a little pre-MS-150 cycling camp in San Marcos. The plan was to get in a long ride Wednesday and a short recovery ride Thursday, but the cold front and some rain forced me to flip the rides.
Wednesday the front came through and we rode on the East side of I-35. Lots of quiet and fairly flat roads and some nice farmland.

Is this a shaved Alpaca or a Llama?

Yesterday the plan was to ride a 50 mile loop from the outlet malls up through Gruene and River Road to 306, then up Purgatory to RR12, down to San Marcos, and back to the outlet malls via Hunter Road. We got all the way up River Road and decided to turn back due to repaving of the final mile, so simply looped back. The day was perfect, 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky. There was little traffic and the few people who passed us were very respectful. When I had a flat tire a mother and daughter in a pickup even stopped to make sure we were ok.
River road is just an awesome ride, it's quiet and very scenic with some decent rollers. I was a little sad I didn't get to test my mettle against the hill on FM 306, but I'll have to try it again this fall.

Just took my Boy Scouts down there from Dallas for a rafting trip and I decided not to take my bike. I fgured that it was too narrow of a road to ride safely so I thought no riders would be on it. BOY was I wrong. Never gonna make that mistake again. We were floating down the river and I rolled my eyes everytime I saw a rider. I just thought "that could be me" ugh!
