I hope they throw the book at the idiot driver. No reason to drive like that.

There are plenty of venues to legally go car racing, too. Damn kids -- keep it on the track.

I'll be surprised if the kid gets a speeding ticket.

Sad thing, few years ago that road was an isolated desert like road. Too many people!:(

Aww man. I met that guy, at my first race in 16 years.

I'd decided for my "comeback" (like I was anything to begin with) to do the Everest Challenge. On the first day a huge van pulled up next to us in the parking lot, a whole pile of mexican dudes got out and someone started handing out bikes from inside. The guys all milled around trying to get warm and one of them had a camera and asked me to take some pictures. Later while I was "warming" up (it was just over freezing), Jorge and one of the other guys spotted my compact crank and 12-30 cassette and were pointing and discussing it. I'd noticed their gearing too- they all had 53/39t gearing and what looked like 11-23 cassettes. I figured that they either had no clue what was coming or they were really good. It turned out to be the latter. Jorge got second in the P/1/2s, and my wife reported later that all the talk among the feeders was about who the fast kid was.

We'll miss him.

My condolences to the family

It feels like January 17th again. I hope he is charged just like the Key Biscayne (Miami) accident driver.

What a terrible, sad tragedy. May he rest in peace. It is so disheartening to read about so many cyclists killed by the actions of selfish people.

“Based on the information investigators have obtained, chances are good that charges will be filed,” said Beavers.

Chances are good?!? I would hope chances are 100%, the little a-hole was speeding and drag racing AND he killed someone, he should go to jail and never get out.

RIP Jorge.

Just spoke to my good friend who is on Bahaiti. Said he was a nice, quiet dude. Sorry to hear. My prayers are with him and his family.

I didn't know Jorge but before he switched to Bahati he was on my team/club Herbalife/La Grange. Really shocked me today when I heard about it, total crime in my opinion. We're all going to hammer this Sunday at Dana Point Grand Prix in his name.

Cycling actually has caused me to pay closer attention to my driving... hopefully I'm safer now that I notice the smaller things.
poor kid.

This is as good a place to post as starting a new one. 19 year old kid on bike flys down hill going the wrong way on a one way street. Enters highway at the bottom of the hill and gets hit by a Winabago driven by an 86 year old man. Cyclist doa. You almost think this was made up but happened in Greensburg, PA this week. Don't have a link, sorry.

Like that will happen. I call 6 months, license again, and back to the old habits.

All of the kids that were racing should go to jail not just the one that did the killing.

Roraff tried to pass the vehicles and lost control of his Honda Civic, veering across the southbound traffic lane and into Alvarado’s path.

Lame. Killing someone while racing in that car is adding insult to injury.

I'm pretty sure charges will be filed. It wasn't just that he hit a cyclist. He was street racing. In sooooo many places you can lose your car or your license over that, even if you don't kill someone. Even if the charges aren't appropriate to killing someone there will at the very least be charges.

RIP.

That's a real shame. Throw the book at the little punk and his friends. Condolences to the friends and family of the Jorge.
