Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. On several bike forums I have read about "leg suck" if you dont wear some form of pedal clips. Has anyone here actually expierenced leg suck, and were you hurt? I of course am talking recumbents here, both bikes and trikes.

You don't necessarily need clipless pedals, as long as you know better than to put your foot down when you're in motion.
That said, a month or two after I first started riding a 'bent, I did exactly this. I was descending a hill, and as far as I can tell, must have flatted my rear wheel without realizing it. Tried to take a corner to the right, rear wheel failed to grip and skidded out from under me, and like a damned fool I put my right foot on the ground. Turns out that the laws of physics are strictly enforced in my county, so the ground proceeded to rip my foot backwards at a really unfortunate angle, and I count myself lucky to have ended up with nothing more than a badly sprained ankle.
I did not have clipless pedals on the bike at the time, and I won't try to speculate as to whether they would have prevented my mistake. I do run clipless now, but it's not to prevent leg suck; I'm pretty sure I learned my lesson, regardless of what pedals I install.

Did it on a Big Wheel when I was a kid.
happened to me once or twice on a BMX bike, and it could happen on a recumbent. If you're riding in the saddle on a properly adjusted 26" or 28" bike it's unlikely to happen because your feet aren't close enough to the ground.

I've had it happen, luckily it's been a while. The worst one was when I was barefoot. ouch!
Oh and then there was the one time in the mud on a little Honda 50cc dirtbike with Chuck Taylors on, ouch again ^3.

I rode without any sort of foot retention for a really long time before switch over to Power Grips straps, and I have never experienced leg suck before.

Riding a tadpole trike on platform pedals at about 10 mph ... maybe slower. Very alarming when your foot, which had previously been where you put it, is quite suddenly behind you as if you were trying to touch your ear from behind. I stopped fast and was not injured. Fortunately, I'm not able to reach any dangerous speed on flat ground.
