Anyone had S&S couplers installed on a bike in CA? I'm having a bike built and they want almost 1K to install couplers and paint. I'm looking for a place that does it here. I'm familiar with Bilenky but would like a place closer to where I live. Ideas? Prices? Thanks.

S&S can tell you every approved builder in your area, or at least they used to. Not just any builder can get the couplings, for liability reasons.

I have two custom built Bilenkey S&S coupled bicycles and one coupled retrofit Trek, also by Bilenky. They are very professional, and in my experience, responsive and communicative. I can understand the desire to work with someone close enough to drive to and talk face to face, but Bilenky truly knows what they are doing. I am very satisfied with all the work they have done for me and unhesitatingly recommend their craftsmanship and their product.

The sandsmachine.com website does refernce a lot of frame builders. You can likely find one closer, but I would not be put off by the location of the builder if their experience and reputation are solid.
