Does anyone use or recommend a certain DVD for cycling on a trainer? I've got the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine Pro. I'd personally like to increase my average pace (I know people don't like that metric so how about power/endurance/speed), so I'm assuming a video focusing on intervals would be best. Will these videos even help?
**Doh! This should be in the Training and Nutrition section. Please move.

i have had good experience with the spinervals series. coach troy is motivating and keeps me engaged without crossing the line to obnoxious. i have a couple of the carmichael ones, but i only got through one with a guest coach who was boring and had what i thought was a very irritating voice.

Another thumbs down for the Carmichael (CTS) vids. I bought three of them a few years ago without testing one or asking around, and they basically consist of some subordinate coach (you can tell he's a real deal, because he has a clipboard) walking around a room full of sweaty people on trainers (consisting of at least one moderately attractive female and one bald guy among them) being very careful not to make eye contact with the many cameras.
Sometimes the coach asks the sweaty people pointed questions like, "How does it make you feel to know that Lance Armstrong does intervals like these when preparing for his Tour de France victories?"
They don't really give you any idea of the layout of the workout ahead of time--not mentioned in the vid, nor on the DVD package. So be very suspicious when the guy with the clipboard says, "give me 110% percent on this one--GO-GO-GO!", because there might be 1, 3 or 8 of those intervals remaining.
Occasionally a vague little Effort Meter and Cadence Meter pop up at the bottom of the screen, but the settings on the effort meter are "Easy" , "Medium" & "Hard".
About the best part of the CTS vids is the music--they didn't want to pay any royalties so it's kinda like the stuff the old guy at the Organ Store in the mall used to play like an off-key version of Baby Elephant Walk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMc0Mfn_dPw&feature=related) played at a tempo to match the cadence.
I'm just waiting for Mystery Science Theater 3000 to do one of Carmichael's vids. That would rule pretty hard.

Haha these videos sound like they could use some work. Right now I have the Spinervals Threshold Test and Suffer Fest and enjoyed it. The coach seemed good enough and the workout gave you a good read on what was coming up and for how long you'd be doing something.
Let me know if you recommend any other dvds!
