Pacific Northwest - Groups around Champoeg Park today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was the guy on the red MTB today headed to Champoeg. I was going to take photos of my wife's 5k run. I passed what looked like 2 different groups. I have a road bike which is my usual ride but took the MTB out today. I have been looking for a local cycling group and would love to hook up with you guys. Hopefully one of you are on this forum!!

Jesse,
Check out pwtc.com - "Portland Wheelmen Touring Club" - especially the ride schedule link. Both groups you saw were Portland Wheelmen group rides: a "Reach the Beach" training ride of 75 miles from Champoeg; and a 45-miler from Charbonneau.
There's a 43-miler planned from Charbonneau this Saturday, an 85-miler on the 24th from Champoeg, the Monster Cookie Metric on the 25th from Salem to Champoeg (salembicycleclub.org), and a century the first Sat. of June out of Canby. They have a few rides out of Newberg as well - though it seems most of their rides are in the NE Portland/Vancouver area.
I wasn't out there this past Saturday, but I might do the Charbonneau ride this coming Saturday. Don't worry (at least for now) that you are not a member - just come check it out.

Thanks that is exactly what I was looking for. I have been looking at clubs in my area but have never come across that group. One rider had stopped due to a mechanical problem and I was going to cross the road and assist, and also ask who they were with but before I could a rider from he group pulled over and helped out. They were already getting back underway by the time I made it up to them.
Thanks again!
