Classic & Vintage - Scored a nice chromed Columbus fork...

A LBS by my work is going out of business and is clearing out all of their stock...even their shop tools. Among the items I bought was a chrome Columbus road fork with Campy tabs. The chrome is in great condition and the only reason I know the fork is Columbus is by the little bird symbol they use. The steerer tube appears to be quite long enough to use on 90% of the bikes out there. The fork has yellow painting in the lugwork, and on the top-sides of the fork appears to be an "SP" forged that is also painted in the same yellow paint. I'm curious if anyone here has any idea of what kind of bike this fork originally was installed on? I'd assume a bike with matching light yellow paint? Any idea of the worth of such a fork? I don't currently have a frame to install it on so I'm considering selling it. Thanks in advance for the help. I'll tell you guys about the other things I bought in a separate post.

I would be interested in purchasing it as I have a Colubus framed bike that currently has polished aluinum forks b/c I couldn't find a chromed one. When you set a price let me know.

SP Sante Pogliaghi. . . late 70's, early 80's vintage. Probably one of the best
italian builders ever.
I'd kill for a early 70's pog.

Do you guys have any idea of what a fork like this is worth? I wish I had the frame that goes with it :rolleyes:

Back in 1979 I built a Pog for the then sheriff of Lorain Cty, Ohio. He was quite the cycling enthusiast and wanted a frame that would be unique in that area so I got him a Pogliaghi. It was nice, but the decals were obscenely thick and then clear coated over. Not really my favorite finish. I really wonder if it was a Sante, since Rossin had the same kind of thick vinyl type decals at the time.

Depending on the steerer tube length(the longer the better), forks like this go from $100-$150.00 on ebay. I just bought a new Colnago chrome fork circa ~84 for $100.00 but that was as cheap as I've seen them sell for.

Thanks for information Don. I'll probably be putting the fork on ebay in the nest week or so. I haven't actually measured it, but I imagine the steerer tube is about 8 or 9" long. If anyone here is interested in the fork, PM me before I put the fork on ebay. I'll post her when it is listed on ebay.

many Pogliaghi forks out there.

(I think that was about 82 or 83). I bet it was the real deal only Sante used a different
supplier for the decals.

Point being, unless you are a collector or have a Pogilaghi frame that needs a fork, a good steel fork is just a good steel fork.

The Pogli-ugly that went on ebay for 2500.00 smackaroonies "buy it now" the other day had different decals than the one I put together. It appeared to have nice smooth decals, and the seller said it was a 78-79, so who knows, maybe Sante ran out of something for a time.

I looked at the fork last night and it is countersunk. The fork on my Frejus is not countersunk so it is easy to see the difference. Does this negatively affect the value that it is countersunk, or is it desirable? Thanks.

I don't think it really afffects value so much as it dates it(probably an 80's fork) and helps the buyer determine what brake center bolt he can fit to the fork without modifying anything. :)
