Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - wtf bike shop effed up?

so i drop my bike off to get a bigger chain ring and a new chain. i wanted a professional to work on it since it hasn't seen a shop in a couple years.

so i finally get a chance to ride it and it sounds like ****. the chain is making an awful noise on the cog. so i check it out and it seems like there is a lot of side to side play on the chain against the gear. so i look at my receipt and is says 1/8" chain and a sugino 130 chain ring, but it didn't say which size.

never dealt with this part before because i had the last chain for as long as i have had the setup.

so i guess i want to know, how much side to side play should there be? for some reason, i have a 3/32 chain sitting around and it fits like a glove over the cog and the chain ring and well under a mm of play. wtf?

Not that big of a deal. Go back and ask for a 3/32" chain.

If your unhappy take it back and get a 1/8th version (or a 3/32 chain). however running 1/8 chain on a 3/32 chainring won't cause any problems.
Although if its actualy making an "Awful Noise" there could be somthing else wrong, I've had 1/8 chains be a bit louder but never had them make an "Awful Noise"

it's turned into a big deal personally haha.

1. my dog got sick, so i had to wait a couple days to pick it up
2. last night, i am having a beer and i hear the tube pop from my livingroom as it hangs from the ceiling
3. this. as i put the wheel on after patching the tube, tube blowing again, and installing a new tube, the chain is all weird.

im laughing because i just can't believe i am going through all of this all at once and i haven't even gotten a ride in.

it's not really that bad. just a rubbing noise because the cog isn't completely lined up.

Cheack your rim tape, I've had that happen a couple time, almost gave me a heart attack when it happened as I was about half a foot away from the tire adjusting the brakes when it happened. the times I've seen it it was a failure of the rim strip.

might do that when my fingers are less sore. haha, that deep v is a little harder than my front wheel.

i think there was too much pressure in there. i usually go over about 10psi to account for the release in removing the pump, but it was pretty fast that time and almost nothing got out. now i am at 10 under, the tube was about 2 years old at that point. kind of kicking myself now for not putting a new strip in, i have a pretty heavy one left because the front wheel kept popping them.

ug, i should just part out the bike and get something new. there is a pk ripper in a skate shop window around the corner and i am also temped by the steamroller, especially since i am a minnesota boy.

I think that's just air in the pump escaping, not air in the tube escaping.

I always thought it was air from the tube. I do the same thing.
